Exosome and secretome approaches are being investigated for hair thinning. They may be discussed after a diagnosis, with a clear explanation that evidence for both topical and injected preparations remains limited.
Is it right for me?
The cause of hair loss must be established first. A study in pattern hair loss does not establish benefit for shedding, scarring alopecia or every type of thinning.
An experimental or emerging treatment requires an explicit discussion of uncertainty and better-established alternatives. Evidence for one source or route cannot establish the safety of another. Local product suitability must be confirmed before use.
Evidence and realistic expectations.
A 16-man study of topical exosomes after microneedling had no control group, so it could not isolate the added effect. A separate short trial of injected conditioned medium alongside minoxidil did not establish a clear added benefit over the comparison treatment.
Reliable skin regeneration, hair regrowth or faster healing has not been established across these products. The FDA reports no approved exosome products in the US; that does not determine Lebanese law or local approval.
Risks to understand.
These are emerging uses with limited long-term safety data. Reactions, infection and persistent inflammation may occur; injections and use through a disrupted skin barrier have different risks from application to intact skin. Product quality, sterility and contamination are particularly important. Serious adverse events have been reported with unapproved exosome products.
