Botox vs Dysport: which is right for me?

Botox and Dysport are different botulinum toxin products. Neither is automatically the best choice for every person. The area being treated, your medical assessment and the proposed product all matter; their dose units cannot be compared one for one.

Published by Dr. Roy Dagher’s clinic · · About this information

Begin with the type of line

Botulinum toxin temporarily reduces activity in selected muscles. This can soften lines associated with facial movement. A crease that remains at rest, a loss of volume or loose skin may need a different discussion. A brand name alone cannot tell you which concern is being treated.

Compare a treatment plan, not a unit price

Different products have their own formulations, labeling and dose units. A lower price per unit does not necessarily mean a lower total cost or an equivalent treatment. Ask which product is proposed, which areas it covers, the total fee and what a follow-up includes. A brand comparison here does not confirm that a particular product is stocked at the clinic.

Set realistic expectations

Changes develop over days and last temporarily, often a few months. Your own response and the area treated affect the result. Bruising, headache, asymmetry and unwanted weakness can occur. The product information also warns about rare serious spread of toxin effect; difficulty breathing, swallowing or speaking after treatment requires immediate medical attention.

Questions to bring to Dr. Roy

Explain the expression you want to preserve, any previous injections and how you responded. Ask why the suggested product and areas suit your goal, what alternatives exist, when to review the result and whom to contact if you have a concern. Share relevant medical history directly with the physician, rather than in the website booking form.

Questions patients ask.

Are Botox and Dysport units interchangeable?

No. Their potency units are product-specific. Do not assume that equal unit counts represent equivalent treatment.

Will one brand always look more natural?

No brand can guarantee that. The assessment, area, treatment plan and individual response matter.

Can I choose a product before my consultation?

You can ask about a preference, but suitability and the proposed product should be discussed during the consultation.
