HIFU or filler: what does my jawline need?
HIFU and filler address different contributors to a jawline concern. Focused ultrasound may be considered for selected skin laxity; filler may be considered for volume or contour. Neither is a universal answer for a double chin or a less defined jawline.

First identify what you are seeing
Loose skin, soft-tissue volume, localized fullness and facial proportions can all affect the jawline. Your preference also matters: what you want to change and what you want to preserve. The assessment should explain which contributor a proposed procedure is intended to address.
What focused ultrasound can contribute
Ultrasound-based tightening delivers energy beneath the surface and is intended to produce a gradual tissue response. Results and risks depend on the system, treatment area and technique. Evidence about one device or facial area cannot automatically be transferred to every HIFU treatment, especially body applications. It does not reproduce a surgical lift.
What filler can contribute
Filler adds material to selected areas to change volume or contour. It does not remove excess skin or fat. Swelling and bruising are possible, along with less common complications such as infection or lumps. Accidental injection into a blood vessel can cause tissue injury and, rarely, vision loss or stroke. These risks belong in the consultation even when a small amount is proposed.
A combination is a choice, not a requirement
Ask whether one treatment, a staged plan, another assessment or no procedure best fits the concern. If several procedures are suggested, clarify the purpose, order, recovery and total cost of each. Questions patients ask.
Will HIFU replace filler?
Not necessarily. A tightening goal and a volume or contour goal are different; the assessment determines whether either approach fits.
Will jawline filler remove a double chin?
No. Filler adds material. Fullness beneath the chin needs its own assessment before discussing options.
Is this the same as diagnostic facial ultrasound?
No. Diagnostic ultrasound makes images of tissues. HIFU is an energy-based treatment. Dr. Roy offers diagnostic facial ultrasound assessment when relevant.
