PATIENT GUIDE
How many microneedling sessions do I need?
There is no single session count for everyone. Microneedling is commonly planned as a course, but the concern, scar pattern, skin response and recovery determine the number and spacing of visits.

What does a typical course mean?
For acne scars, the American Academy of Dermatology describes an example of three to five treatments, spaced two to four weeks apart. That is general guidance, not a personal prescription or a guaranteed clinic package. Dr. Roy assesses whether needling is appropriate before discussing a course.
Why your starting point matters
Flat brown marks, shallow uneven texture and deep or tethered scars are different concerns. Some scars need another approach, and active skin disease may need attention first. Bring details of previous procedures and your response to them so the assessment can consider what has already been tried.
Allow healing and reassessment
Redness, tenderness and temporary swelling may occur. The skin needs time to recover, and changes are gradual. More frequent or more aggressive treatment is not automatically better. Ask when to restart your usual skincare and how to protect the treated skin. Infection, pigment changes and scarring are possible complications.
RF and added products are separate decisions
RF microneedling also delivers energy and has a different risk profile. PRP, exosomes or other products added to a session should not be treated as interchangeable extras. Ask what evidence supports each addition, its risks and its extra cost. An initial plan should include a point to reconsider further visits if the benefit is limited.
Questions patients ask.
Can one session be enough?
Some people may notice a change after one session, but that does not establish how many visits your particular concern needs.
Should I book a package before being assessed?
First clarify suitability, the proposed number of visits, total fees and how the plan will be reassessed.
Is RF microneedling the same as regular microneedling?
No. RF adds energy to the procedure. Its potential effects, precautions and risks need a separate discussion.
